Many global problems have local roots. This is why Agenda 21 is so keen on the various local players working together. But the increasing complexity of globalisation calls for joint problem solving at an international level.
Using the Players Database you can look up special organisations, institutions, Agenda offices, companies or universities committed to Agenda 21 whose experience might be of use to others. You will also be able to look up their contact and cooperation person. You do not have to be involved in a formal Agenda 21 process to be included in this database. It is more important that the process you are involved in uses local action to shape global development in a way that is acceptable for both the environment and society. Further, your project should involve social groups in the process at a local level. Also, sustainable economy should be supported and a genuine contribution to fighting poverty be made.
The Players Database also includes those local authorities, NGOs, companies, etc. responsible for the projects described in the Project Database.
Many communes are organised in International Networks such as the Cities Alliance, Sustainable Cities or the EU's URB-AL programme. An example of a worldwide network of NGOs in the area of housing and urban development is Habitat International Coalition. Ökoprofit is a network of local authorities and companies committed to the concept of sustainable economy. Using the Players Database you can filter data according to these or other criteria. If you know of any other networks you think should be included in the data bank, please send us an e-mail.
Updating the data in the database is the responsibility of the respective players. If you are included in the Player database, you will receive confirmation by e-mail. This will give you an identity number that will enable you to make changes to your own data. Please note that if communication is to function smoothly, we need to be informed of any address changes immediately. You can decide yourself how many languages you want to use in the database.
Data that is not updated will be erased after three years at the latest. Before it is erased, you will be a sent an e-mail informing you of this.
The Players Database can be organised according to Sector, Region, Player and membership in international networks. There is also a full-text search function in the Service Menu.
